Transit

City Utilities is responsible for providing fixed route and paratransit public transit service to the City of Springfield. The other MPO jurisdictions are only served by a number of paratransit services.

Missouri State University also provides transit services to their students through shuttles called the External LinkBear Line. These shuttles run every 5 to 8 minutes with a variety of stops on the main MSU campus and downtown Springfield.

City Utilities is the designated recipient of FTA funds. These funds for the MPO area include Section 5307 Urbanized Area funds, Section 5311 Other than Urbanized Areas funds, Section 5310 Elderly and Disabled funds, Section 5308 Clean Fuels, Section 5309 Capital Investment grants and loans, Section 5310 Job Access and Reverse Commute grants, and Section 3038 Over-the-Road Buss Accessibility funds.

The MPO has the responsibility of producing several planning documents as related to federal requirements included in SAFETEA-LU.
